Medlock Park pool opening delay

During the inspection today with the Board of Health, the Pulsar motherboard which feeds information electronically to the chlorine pump at Medlock Pool short circuited. Standguard, the pool contractor, is working continuously to install a replacement board. In order for RPCA to open Medlock Pool, the Board of Health will need to return to Medlock Pool for a final inspection prior to opening. Once the BOH has been notified that the panel is replaced, they will be available for re-inspection. 

Until final inspection occurs at Medlock Park, nearby Kittredge Pool located at 1520 Kittredge Park Road, NE, will be open at noon tomorrow as scheduled.

We will continuously work with our contractor to see the repair completed as soon as possible.

DeKalb County’s pools will open Memorial Day weekend starting on Saturday, May 27. The official seasons runs May 27 through July 30. Select pools will remain open on weekends through Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4. Residents are encouraged to splash into summer by visiting a neighborhood pool. (most) DeKalb pools: free admission through June 22

Per Crossroad News, in response to the heat wave and through June 22, DeKalb County "is temporarily waiving admission fees at all pools until 6 p.m. on Monday with the exception of the Browns Mill Aquatic Facility."

In general, Medlock pool is "Open Wednesday-Saturday noon-6 p.m. (closed Tuesdays)" and open Sundays 1-6pm.

Splash pool conversion for DeKalb kiddie pools

Theresa Same (MANA Zoning Chair) alerts us to DeKalb's project to make toddler pools ADA-compliant, including conversions to splash pools. Our Medlock kiddie pool should be part of this project.

Also, several MANA members are communicating with the County and trying to secure shade sails for the kiddie pool area, which currently is fully exposed to the sun and gets unpleasantly warm as a result.

UPDATE 2: The pool will switch to weekends only on August 9. Closing day is Sept 1, Labor Day.

UPDATE, May 25: The pool opened on May 24. Pool hours are noon-6, closed on Tuesdays, and 1-6pm on Sundays. They are trying to get the schedule switched back to being closed on Mondays (the usual schedule and what the DeKalb pool site says). 2 and under are free, so are those over 55
3-17 are $2

Pool pass is $45 per person

There is no readmission fee (you can leave and come back as many time as you like in one day).
Food and drinks are permitted but glass containers and bottles are not allowed in the pool area.
There's a limited number of chairs, so feel free to bring your own.
There are swim lessons and swim team. Prices and dates will be determined on opening day.

Closed on Mondays
Tuesdays - Saturdays:  Noon - 6 p.m.
Sundays:  1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

Daily admission for DeKalb Co. residents is $3 (adults 18 and over), $2 for youths (ages 3-17) and free for children under 2 years of age. Annual pass is $45.

The pool will be open through August 2. It is unknown at this time if the pool will open for additional weekends in September.

Memorial Day Weekend = Medlock Pool Opens

Memorial Day honors those who died while serving in the U.S. military. It does not look like there are any memorials/special events at the Decatur Cemetery or Oakland Cemetery, but Oakland is holding tours as usual on Saturday and Sunday.

For those who equate this holiday with the start of the summer break, here's some potential outings for the coming 3-day weekend:

Stone Mountain Park: who can resist the "Lasershow Spectacular in Mountainvision with a special, extended fireworks finale"? All three nights throughtout Memorial Day weekend?

The DeKalb County swim season begins on the Saturday before Memorial Day (May) and ends at select pools the Saturday before Labor Day (September).
