The dog pictured to the left was found this morning on Arborcrest Drive in Decatur, unable to move, probably due to having been hit by a car. Compassionate folks stayed with him and the pooch is now under the care of the Lifeline Project folks at the DeKalb County Animal Services.
The dog did not have a collar and is not microchipped. If you recognize this dog, please direct his owners to http://dekalbanimalservices.com/
UPDATE: here's his DCAS profile

UPDATE 2: July 24 via Facebook: "looking a bit perkier this morning, but he still can't walk and is still in urgent need of rescue"
Since the owner has not been found yet, a fundraiser has been set up to help cover vet costs, see https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/fpRU8?psid=64149191971240c7b171d21ca1a7943d&fb_ref=share__61TYu1
UPDATE 3: "Rescue pending" status posted on DCAS, meaning, a rescue group has stepped forward to get this dog out of the pokey and provide an environment where he can recover and then be adopted. YAY!
UPDATE 4: Per a Facebook update, vets determined that this dog was shot at some point and a bullet fragment migrated to his spine, causing hind-leg paralysis; he will be evaluated at UGA. He also appears to have been on his own for a while. The New England Humane Society (Facebook, web), based in northern Rhode Island and with established relationship with rural Georgia shelters, has agreed to take him in for rehoming. For years, a number of rescue volunteers and organizations have been relocating dogs and cats from states with a surplus of unwanted animals to areas where there is high demand for adoptable pets. "Lovell" (as he is being called by DCAS) faces mounting vet bills ($800 so far); if you would like to contribute, you may do so via his Fundrazr page.

If you know who the owners might be, or an interested in a small, sweet "mini-pin" or rat terrier-type dog, please email medlockassoc@gmail and we'll put you in touch with the person who is taking care of this puppet.

Two dogs abandoned in City of Decatur need help
sent to MANA for distribution. Please help if you can.
On Jan 1, two very sweet adult pet dogs, one male and one female boxer/bird dog mixes, were abandoned in the City of Decatur with a bag of dog food dumped on the street. They were obviously pets as they were confused and were lost when they were discovered. Both are very friendly and family oriented dogs.
Residents on that street were trying to take care of these abandoned pets. However, the dogs have now ended up at Dekalb Animal Control and are residing on Death Row there. At least they are temporarily safe from the freezing cold. However time is running out for them as eventually if no foster or permanent home is found they will have to be euthenized.
Private donations have been pledged in exceess of $350 from residents all throughout Decatur to rescue these loving pets from euthenaztion. What is missing now is someone to either foster or take these loving animals as permanent members of their family. I won't commit to this. However I believe most vets/shelters will provide services and food at a reduced rates to foster homes.
If anyone can find a way to take one or both of these animals into their lives, either as foster or permanent homes, it would be a heartwarming experience for everyone and a great way to start 2012.
If you can help in this rescue effort or would like more information such as a picture of these pets, please contact me offline as soon as possible at wardellcastles@hotmail.com. Time is running out for them.Update: for photo of the doggies, see http://www.decaturmetro.com/2012/01/06/winnona-park-neighbors-to-the-doggie-rescue/

FOUND Doggie: Willivee
On Wed. evening around 7pm, I found a dog walking along Willivee near the Ball Park, coming from the direction of Hunting Valley/N. Druid Hills.
She has no collar, and was very thirsty. After a little coaxing, she got in my backseat.
I know she's someone's pet.
No luck looking for her owners, but she seems to be used to people, easily found the back door to my house, and made herself at home.
I will post some flyers, but thought the community 'bulletinboard' might be a bit faster.
She looks healthy, she's friendly, didn't mind a bath, and likes my 2 dogs.
Part Chow, maybe Shepherd. Fluffy thick coat, black with brown head, front and back quarters.
HELP!
If you have any info on this sweet doggie, contact
